BARBARA GOODSON

barbgoodson-ad.png

Barbara Goodson is a veteran American voice actress best known for her iconic role as Rita Repulsa, the original villainess of the Power Rangers franchise. With a career spanning decades in animation, anime, and video games, Barbara’s voice work helped define one of the most recognizable characters in 1990s children’s television.

Barbara Goodson rose to global fame in 1993 when she voiced Rita Repulsa, the main antagonist in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Rita was a sorceress bent on conquering Earth after being freed from a space dumpster by astronauts on the Moon. With her shrieking, unforgettable battle cry — “Ahhh! After 10,000 years, I’m free! It’s time to conquer Earth!” — Barbara instantly became a part of pop culture history.

Goodson didn’t just deliver a voice — she created a personality. Her over-the-top performance was dubbed over footage of the Japanese actress Machiko Soga from Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, blending Japanese tokusatsu with American flair. Rita’s exaggerated tone, wicked laugh, and constant frustration with the bumbling Lord Zedd and her henchmen made her a fan-favorite villain.

Barbara continued voicing Rita throughout multiple seasons and appearances, including:

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993–1995)

  • Power Rangers Zeo (1996)

  • Power Rangers In Space (1998)

  • Power Rangers Mystic Force (as the voice of the Mystic Mother – a reformed Rita)

  • Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid (2021 DLC) – reprising Rita in video game form
